PARK COMMISSION
April 19, 2010
The regular meeting of the Park Commission was called to order at 6:36 p.m. in the Albany Village Hall by Chairperson Wayne Stemple. Members present were: Stemple, Rod Sutherland, John Briggs, Jim Mauerman, Larry Ommodt, and Mark Reidel. Also present was: Jon Runaas and Gary Armitage.
Proof of posting was verified.
MINUTES: Motion by Sutherland, seconded by Briggs, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Carried.
PUBLIC APPEARANCES: None.
BALLPARK CARETAKER: Armitage shared with members his progress at the ball park with fixing things for the season. These included staining of the bleachers, shelter posts, etc. A protective fence cover was also installed, along with some other repairs to parts of the fence. He also shared that the Legion Park could use a new fence, as the existing one is showing its age. The members thanked him for his fine work and look forward to hearing more from him.
SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM COSTS: We reviewed the summer recreation programs costs that were supplied to us. We did see that we have taken a hit which is probably due to the economy. We have asked for a breakdown of some of these numbers and will continue to review them.
ARBOR DAY TREE PLANTING: After a short discussion, we decided that we should plant a tree in Bowman Park to replace the tree that was planted after Roger Carolan passed away. This will be planted to also celebrate Arbor Day. Motion by Stemple, seconded by Briggs, for Sutherland to work with Runaas and select a proper tree for the location that does not exceed a cost of $150.00; Sutherland to plant the tree. Carried.
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: Sutherland shared with us that he has started to fertilize the trees. Runaas reported on the condition of the retaining wall at Bowman Park, it is also showing its age and will need some work. There is a concern with kids running on the tables at the Village Park. Runaas was asked about the figures for a picnic table at the dam; he has some numbers and we will discuss at the next meeting.
