JOINT RECYCLING COMMITTEE
May 17, 2010
The regular meeting of the Joint Recycling Committee was called to order at 5:46 p.m. in the Albany Village Hall, 205 North Water Street, Albany WI by Chairperson John Grochola. Members present were: Grochola, Peggy Boeck, Rod Sutherland, David Dowden [Ex-Offico], Keith Hobson and Fred Baertschi. Also present: John Briggs.
Proof of posting was verified.
MINUTES: Motion by Sutherland, seconded by Boeck, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as printed. Carried.
FROM BOARD MEETING:
a) Concrete
a. The village board approved the replacement of concrete at the Recycling Center.
b) Hours change
a. Notified the committee on the 600 hour limit;
b. Township was puzzled, they were not aware of any limits;
c. Asked for further information from Village to assist them drilling down on this;
d. Discussion followed; what is true additional costs for the Recycle Center;
e. Motion by Sutherland, seconded by Baertschi, to table this discussion until further information is obtained.
c) Grant
a. Grant of $14,983.86 was awarded to us this year.
OPERATIONAL:
a) Identify how we can be more efficient at Recycle Center?
a. No ideas brought forward.
b) Damage to side of building; discuss concrete posts at 4 corners
a. Discussed the couple of accidents we had with the corners of the garage doors;
b. Recommended to add 4 steel posts (one at each door corner) to protect the corner of the building;
c. Since we have received approval on the concrete, we will expand the scope of work to include this.
RECYCLE POGRAMS:
a) Update on newspaper articles?
a. No action taken on this point.
b) Chemicals/Hazardous Waste
a. No action taken on this point.
c) Wisconsin’s new e-Waste Law
a. No action taken on this point.
d) Town of Exeter – Recycle Center, vehicle sticker
a. Brooklyn also has vehicle stickers;
b. Request for Laurie Keepers to find out more information.
e) Spring Acceptance Day
a. For next event, Fall Acceptance, we need a couple extra people to help out;
b. These people should be from the village side.
f) Battery Recycling
a. Laurie checked with Landfill, back to her to check on auxiliary program.
g) June Meeting Date
a. John asked that the June meeting be moved from Monday to Tuesday because of a personal commitment he has.
ANNOUNCEMENT AND FUTURE AGENA ITEMS: Nothing requested for next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT: Motion by Sutherland, seconded by Boeck, to adjourn. Carried.
